श्रीरामाष्टकम् — व्यासविरचित अद्वैत स्तोत्र

॥ श्रीरामाष्टकम् ॥

भजे विशेषसुन्दरं समस्तपापखण्डनम् ।
स्वभक्तचित्तरञ्जनं सदैव राममद्वयम् ॥ १॥

जटाकलापशोभितं समस्तपापनाशकम् ।
स्वभक्तभीतिभङ्जनं भजेह राममद्वयम् ॥ २॥

निजस्वरूपबोधकं कृपाकरं भवापहम् ।
समं शिवं निरञ्जनं भजेह राममद्वयम् ॥ ३॥

सहप्रपञ्चकल्पितं ह्यनामरूपवास्तवम् ।
निराकृतिं निरामयं भजेह राममद्वयम् ॥ ४॥

निष्प्रपञ्चनिर्विकल्पनिर्मलं निरामयम् ।
चिदेकरूपसन्ततं भजेह राममद्वयम् ॥ ५॥

भवाब्धिपोतरूपकं ह्यशेषदेहकल्पितम् ।
गुणाकरं कृपाकरं भजेह राममद्वयम् ॥ ६॥

महावाक्यबोधकैर्विराजमनवाक्पदैः ।
परब्रह्म व्यापकं भजेह राममद्वयम् ॥ ७॥

शिवप्रदं सुखप्रदं भवच्छिदं भ्रमापहम् ।
विराजमानदैशिकं भजेह राममद्वयम् ॥ ८॥

रामाष्टकं पठति यः सुकरं सुपुण्यं
व्यासेन भाषितमिदं श‍ृणुते मनुष्यः ।
विद्यां श्रियं विपुलसौख्यमनन्तकीर्तिं
सम्प्राप्य देहविलये लभते च मोक्षम् ॥ ९॥

Here is the meaning of each verse in both Hindi and English:

॥ १॥ English: I worship Sri Rama, who is exceptionally beautiful, who destroys all sins, who delights the hearts of His devotees, and who is always the non-dual supreme reality. हिंदी: मैं उन श्रीराम की उपासना करता हूँ जो अत्यंत सुंदर हैं, समस्त पापों का नाश करने वाले हैं, अपने भक्तों के चित्त को आनंदित करने वाले हैं और सदा अद्वय (एकमात्र परमसत्य) हैं।

॥ २॥ English: I worship Sri Rama, who is adorned with matted locks, who destroys all sins, and who removes the fears of His devotees — that non-dual Rama. हिंदी: मैं उन श्रीराम की उपासना करता हूँ जो जटाओं से सुशोभित हैं, समस्त पापों का नाश करने वाले हैं और अपने भक्तों के भय को दूर करने वाले हैं।

॥ ३॥ English: I worship that non-dual Rama, who reveals the knowledge of the true Self, who is compassionate, who removes the cycle of birth and death, who is equal in all, auspicious, and spotlessly pure. हिंदी: मैं उन अद्वय श्रीराम की उपासना करता हूँ जो आत्मज्ञान का बोध कराते हैं, कृपालु हैं, संसार-बंधन से मुक्त करते हैं, सबमें समान हैं, शिवस्वरूप हैं और निर्मल हैं।

॥ ४॥ English: I worship that non-dual Rama, whose true nature is beyond name and form, who along with this visible world is only an imagination, who is formless and absolutely pure and flawless. हिंदी: मैं उन अद्वय श्रीराम की उपासना करता हूँ जो इस समस्त प्रपंच सहित केवल कल्पना मात्र हैं, जिनका वास्तविक स्वरूप नाम-रूप से परे है, जो निराकार और निर्मल हैं।

॥ ५॥ English: I worship that non-dual Rama, who is beyond all worldly appearances, beyond all mental modifications, ever pure, free from all impurity, and who is eternally of the nature of pure consciousness. हिंदी: मैं उन अद्वय श्रीराम की उपासना करता हूँ जो समस्त प्रपंच से परे हैं, निर्विकल्प हैं, निर्मल हैं, निरोग हैं और जो सदा चिदेकरूप (शुद्ध चेतना स्वरूप) हैं।

॥ ६॥ English: I worship that non-dual Rama, who is like a boat to cross the ocean of worldly existence, who dwells in all bodies, who is the treasure of all virtues and is full of grace and compassion. हिंदी: मैं उन अद्वय श्रीराम की उपासना करता हूँ जो संसाररूपी सागर को पार कराने के लिए नाव के समान हैं, जो समस्त शरीरों में कल्पित हैं, जो गुणों के भंडार और कृपा के सागर हैं।

॥ ७॥ English: I worship that all-pervading Para-Brahman Rama, who is revealed by the great Vedantic sayings (Mahavakyas) and who shines through the supreme words of the scriptures that are beyond ordinary speech. हिंदी: मैं उन सर्वव्यापी परब्रह्म श्रीराम की उपासना करता हूँ जो महावाक्यों (जैसे "अहं ब्रह्मास्मि") द्वारा जाने जाते हैं और जो वाणी तथा पद से परे विराजमान हैं।

॥ ८॥ English: I worship that non-dual Rama, who grants supreme auspiciousness, who bestows bliss, who cuts the bondage of worldly existence, who removes all delusion, and who shines as the supreme Guru (spiritual guide). हिंदी: मैं उन अद्वय श्रीराम की उपासना करता हूँ जो कल्याण प्रदान करते हैं, सुख देते हैं, संसार-बंधन को काटते हैं, भ्रम को दूर करते हैं और परम गुरु रूप में विराजमान हैं।

॥ ९॥ (फलश्रुति / Phala Shruti) English: Whoever reads or listens to this Ramashtakam — composed by Sage Vyasa — which is easy to recite and highly meritorious, attains knowledge, wealth, great happiness, and eternal fame, and upon the dissolution of the body, attains Moksha (liberation). हिंदी: जो मनुष्य व्यासजी द्वारा रचित इस सुगम और अत्यंत पुण्यदायी रामाष्टकम् का पाठ करता है अथवा सुनता है, वह विद्या, लक्ष्मी, अपार सुख और अनंत कीर्ति को प्राप्त करता है और देह के अंत में मोक्ष को प्राप्त होता है।
