History of Hindu Temple of Virginia
HTVA's official history records a long-term effort to create a Hindu religious and educational center in Northern Virginia:
- December 5, 2009: Hindu Temple of Virginia was incorporated to serve the religious, cultural and educational needs of the Hindu community.
- June 2010: The organization received 501(c)(3) tax-exempt recognition from the IRS.
- 2016: HTVA acquired land at Acacia Lane in Sterling; permits and development issues affected on-site worship plans.
- 2016–2025: The organization operated from a leased facility at 22510 South Sterling Boulevard; the temple history notes Silanyasam and Vigraha Prathishta in 2018.
- 2025: The South Sterling Boulevard lease ended and operations temporarily moved to 1319 Shepard Drive, Suite F.
- 2026: After the Pranaprathishta Mahothsavam in August, operations moved to the permanent Acacia Lane facility.
History is based on HTVA's official history page and its published 2026 Pranaprathishta event information. citeturn1search14turn0search4
Parking & Visiting the Temple
Because the organization has changed locations during construction, parking instructions should be checked against the current official location page and event notice. The current site identifies 44799 Acacia Lane as the temple address. citeturn1search0
For major events, expect different traffic and parking arrangements. HTVA's August 2026 Pranaprathishta notice, for example, used a separate parking location and shuttle system because of anticipated attendance and venue capacity. citeturn0search4
